Degree Overview:

The Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) program at the University of West Florida (UWF) is designed to prepare students for advanced accounting careers in various sectors, including public accounting, finance, business, and more. The program emphasizes the development of analytical, presentation, and communication skills, preparing students for the demanding and lucrative field of accounting.


Objectives:

  • Prepare students for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination
  • Provide advanced knowledge and skills in managerial accounting, accounting data analytics, advanced accounting information systems, auditing, taxation of flow-through entities, and commercial law
  • Develop analytical, presentation, and communication skills applicable to various aspects of accounting, such as business analysis and reporting, information systems and controls, and taxation

Program:

The M.Acc. program consists of 30 credit hours, excluding foundational proficiencies. The core coursework includes:

  • Managerial Accounting (ACG 6308): Management control and behavior, cost/profit/investment centers, budgets and performance evaluation, control of projects, control in service and non-profit organizations
  • Accounting Information Systems (ACG 6405): Contemporary accounting system topics with an emphasis on internal controls and an accounting system design project
  • Auditing (ACG 6856): Professional and ethical standards of auditing, assurance, attestation, and accounting and review services
  • Accounting Data Analytics (ACG 6177): Hands-on experience using data analytics tools in accounting and business contexts, with a focus on critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Commercial Law (BUL 5831): Selected topics in law pertaining to business transactions, business environment and associations, and financial securities
  • Taxation of Flow-Through Entities (TAX 5317): Principles of income taxation of flow-through entities, including partnerships, S corporations, trusts, and estates
