Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wilmington University prepares students for professional counseling practice, addressing a range of mental health issues in diverse populations.


Program Overview

The M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and is the only program of its kind in the region. Upon completion, students are prepared to sit for the National Counselor Examination and work towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health (LPCMH).


Curriculum and Field Work

The program consists of a two-year mental health counseling course sequence, followed by a one-year clinical training experience. This comprehensive three-year program provides a knowledge base and clinical skills for individual, group, family, and career counseling practice.

Program Format and Location

The CMHC program is available in a Hybrid format, located in New Castle. The Hybrid program utilizes a combination of Digital Synchronous, Digital Asynchronous, and In-Person synchronous learning.


Digital Learning Modalities

  • Digital Asynchronous Learning: Utilizes Canvas as a Learning Management System, containing syllabi, learning modules, assignments, tests, and quizzes.
  • Digital Synchronous Learning: Students participate in real-time Zoom class meetings, allowing for enhanced engagement and learning activities.
  • In-Person Synchronous Learning: Students participate in in-person learning activities on campus, allowing for added engagement with faculty and students.

Attendance and Engagement

Attendance for all digital synchronous Zoom classes and in-person synchronous learning classes is mandatory.


Program Duration and Credits

The program can be completed in as little as 3 years, requiring 60 credits.

The cost of a typical 3-credit graduate degree course is $1,653. Wilmington University tuition is based on cost-per-credit, and students only pay for the courses needed to complete their degree.
