Program Overview

The Cut Design Academy offers a comprehensive program in Fashion Design, Illustration, and Creative Design. This 14-week course is tailored to fashion-focused students who want to develop their design skills and is taught by top industry experts.

Program Duration

The program duration is 14 weeks, with 20 hours of instruction per week. The lecture component is 8 hours a week, and the lab component is 12 hours a week.

The lead instructors for this program are Julie Berg and Hien-Nhi Nguyen.

Semester Start

The semester starts in January, May, and September.

Price

The price for domestic students is $6,995, and for international students, it is $8,450. Installment plans are available.

Program Outline

The program outline includes the following topics:

• Fashion Elements: recognizing and identifying garment styles, names, and fashion terminology
• Illustrate A Variety Of Elements: learning to illustrate products such as skirts, blouses/shirt, pants, and jackets
• Technical Spec Drawing: creating and hand-rendering technical drawings for specification packages and line sheets
• Seeing The Figure As Familiar Shapes/Proportion: breaking the figure down into simple shapes and learning about gesture drawing and proportion
• Rendering: utilizing gouache, markers, and colored pencils to render fabrics accurately
• Principles Of Design Elements: learning about the 7 silhouettes in fashion and understanding hand, fabrics, weights, seasonality, prints, and print matching
• Collection Development & Presentation: learning how to bring all the elements of the fashion cycle together and create and draw a 40-piece cohesive collection
• Inspiration/Research: building a collection concept and learning effective types of research
• Fabric Research And Fabricating A Line: researching textile trade shows and understanding fabric agents and the role of sourcing

Instructors

Julie Berg

Julie Berg brings 25 years of forward-thinking fashion design and energy-fueled marketing talent to the table. She has worked with various fashion brands and has launched her own eco-sportswear label.

Hien-Nhi Nguyen

Hien-Nhi Nguyen specializes in crafting menswear and womenswear across casual, outerwear, and athleisure categories. She has worked with international fashion suppliers and has collaborated with a Finnish start-up to develop performance wear using recycled coffee grounds.

Accreditation

The program is approved by the Registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. The Cut Design Academy is a PTIB-designated institution.
