Investigation & Enforcement Skills Associate Certificate
Program Overview
The Investigation & Enforcement Skills Associate Certificate is designed for law enforcement professionals who want to enhance their investigation, inspection, and enforcement skills. This program provides a recognized credential to help reach law enforcement career goals.
Program Details
What You Need to Graduate
- Students in the program must complete 12 credits of courses offered in the program.
- Six core courses are sequenced in a particular order of completion for maximum benefit.
- Students are encouraged to register in this sequence.
- Register for your elective(s) at any time.
Criteria to Receive the Associate Certificate and Graduate
- Proof of official acceptance to the program.
- Proof of successful completion of 12 credits within 12 to 36 months of acceptance to the program. (Exceptions require documented Program Manager approval).
- You must notify the program area when you have met and documented the associate certificate requirements.
Course Formats
Courses are offered in the following formats:
Face-to-Face (F2F) Courses
- Face-to-face courses are in-person classes held at a JIBC campus or on-site in the community.
- Course lengths generally range from one to five consecutive days.
Instructor-Facilitated Online Courses
- Instructor-facilitated online courses require weekly participation (i.e., study at your own pace, but meet the weekly requirements).
- Requirements may include:
- Reading articles and case studies
- Active engagement in discussion boards sharing your ideas and perspectives
- Meeting assignment deadlines
- Completing online quizzes and exams
- You will have 24/7 access to the online course.
- You must complete all requirements before the end date.
Tuition & Fees
Tuition
- Each course is paid for separately during course registration.
- Tuition to complete the entire program is approximately $5,000.
Additional Fees
- Learner Services Fee (price dependent on course locations)
Textbooks & Supplies
- Course readings and materials will be supplied.
- If additional books or other materials are required, you will be advised when you are accepted into the program.

- INVE-1001 Introduction to Criminal Law
- INVE-1002 Introduction to Administrative Law
- INVE-1003 Introduction to Investigative Skills and Processes
- INVE-1004 Enhanced Investigative Interviewing
- INVE-1005 Report Writing for Professional Investigators
Elective Courses
- INVE-1006 Application for and Execution of Search Warrants
- INVE-1008 Testifying in Legal Proceedings/Hearings
- INVE-1010 Introduction to Investigative File Management
- INVE-1011 Conducting Internal Investigations
- INVE-1013 Forensic Digital Imaging: Documenting and Presenting Visual Evidence
- CRES-1717 De-escalating Hostility*
*Students looking for more in-depth instruction on dealing with Hostility may wish to register for CRES-1100 Foundations of Conflict Resolution.
Admission Criteria
- This program is open to individuals aged 18 and older, regardless of educational or professional background.
Application Process
- Complete the program application form via EducationPlannerBC.
- Submit your application through the Education Planner BC portal. Choose the January–April 2025 intake to begin your studies in May 2025.
Financial Aid and Awards
- Candidates for this program may be eligible for JIBC awards and bursaries, including the JIBC General Student Bursary.
- All students are encouraged to apply.
Program Intakes & Application Deadlines
- Program Intakes: Three intakes per year – September, January, and May
- Application Process: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis (continuous intake).
- Application Deadline: Continuous application intake. No application deadline.
