MA Drama Production for TV, Film and Digital Media

Overview

The MA Drama Production for TV, Film and Digital Media course offers students the opportunity to learn about the development and commissioning process, as well as the technical aspects of production. Students will hone their voice as visual storytellers, learning about the stages of production, and how to find their voice and tell unique stories.

Introduction

The course is designed for those who want a professional career in drama production within television, film, or digital media. Students will develop their skills as visual storytellers, understand the foundations of great drama production, and build connections and professional networks to enhance employability.


Course Structure

The full-time structure includes:


  • Creative Development Projects: Develop skills through applied theory and practical work.
  • Media Theory and Practice: Examine the theory and practice of media production and contextualize the contemporary broadcasting and film environment.
  • Collaborative Projects: Work on live briefs from real industry clients and broadcasters, developing creative and critical skills.
  • Advanced Production Practices: Develop production craft specialisms, preparing students for production in semester two and three.

Students can choose one of the following modules:


  • Major Project: Practice Research Project: Demonstrate theoretical and practical skills through self-directed practice and research.
  • Major Project: Dissertation: Demonstrate theoretical skills through self-directed research.

Teaching and Assessment

  • Teaching: Combination of seminars, workshops, independent research, collaborative project work, and film screenings.
  • Assessment: Methods depend on the module and elective pathway, but may include creative projects, portfolios, live briefs, critical reflections, presentations, and essays.

Employment and Stats

  • Employment: Graduates have gone on to secure professional roles in producing, development, commissioning, directing, writing, and advertising.
  • Further Study: Graduates can pursue a further academic research path through doctoral (PhD) programmes.

Requirements

  • Applicant Profile: Submit a personal statement and meet entry requirements.
  • Standard Entry Requirements: Second-class honours degree, 2:2 or above, with an appropriate amount of media production, technology, and design experience.
  • International Students: IELTS score of 6.5, with no element below 5.5.
  • Alternative Entry Requirements: Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process.

Fees

  • Full-time Home: £9,100 per year
  • Full-time International: £17,000 per year
  • Part-time: £1,516 per 30 credit module

  • Scholarships for International Students: Available for high-achieving international students.
