Anatomy, Physiology and Nutrition PhD/MRes

Overview

The Anatomy, Physiology and Nutrition PhD/MRes program at the University of Nottingham allows students to research a topic of their interest under the guidance of experienced supervisors. The program is bespoke, enabling students to choose their own area of research.

Course Content

PhD or MRes?

  • PhD programs allow students to research a topic over 3 to 4 years, culminating in a thesis and viva voce examination.
  • MRes programs involve a substantial amount of independent research and 20 credits of transferable skills training over 12 months.

Defining Your Research Area

  • Students should email a relevant supervisor to discuss their research interests.
  • The University of Nottingham adopts an integrated approach to research in human anatomy and cell biology, focusing on areas such as:
    • Understanding the unlimited potential of primordial germ cells
    • Discovering important processes governed by macromolecules
    • Examining protein-protein, protein-membrane, and receptor-mediated interactions within cells

Entry Requirements

Home / UK Students

  • Degree: British Honours degree at least 2:1 or equivalent
  • Additional information:
    • Research proposal required, worked on with the proposed supervisor
    • Two references, with at least one academic reference

EU / International Students

  • Degree: Undergraduate degree of at least 2:1 or equivalent
  • International and EU equivalents: The University of Nottingham accepts a wide range of qualifications from around the world.
  • Additional information:
    • Research proposal required, worked on with the proposed supervisor
    • Two references, with at least one academic reference
    • IELTS: 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element) as a minimum, except for Virology programs, which require IELTS 7.0 (no less than 6.5 in any element) as a minimum

International Students

  • PhD: £24,300 for low-cost, £32,400 for lab-based, £38,400 for high-cost lab-based, or £44,000 for exceptional technically intensive or specialized projects
