RII60520 - Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design
Course Description
This qualification reflects the role of an individual working as a senior civil works designer or a paraprofessional designer, who supports professional engineers. They perform tasks that are broad, specialized, complex and technical and include strategic areas and initiating activities. They are responsible for the design of complex projects to ensure the implementation of the client’s site requirements and are required to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge and initiate solutions to technical problems or management requirements.
Course Structure
The Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design consists of twelve (12) units of competency, comprising 5 core units and 7 elective units, in accordance with the packaging rules.

- BSBWHS616 | Apply safe design principles to control WHS risks
- RIICWD601E | Manage civil works design processes
- RIIQUA601E | Establish and maintain a quality system
Elective Units
- BSBOPS601 | Develop and implement business plans
- BSBSTR601 | Manage innovation and continuous improvement
- MEM30031A | Operate computer aided design (CAD) system to produce basic drawing element
- CPPSSI5050 | Produce survey drawings
- RIICWD533E | Prepare detailed design of civil concrete structures
- RIICWD534E | Prepare detailed design of civil steel structures
- RIICWD535E | Prepare detailed design of civil timber structures
Entry Requirements
- Academic Entry Requirements: Year 12 with a pass of 60% in best four academic subjects.
- English Language Entry Requirements: IELTS score 6.0 (with no bands less than 5.5) or equivalent Pearson Test of English (PTE).
- No study gap

Exit Point/Award
Students that successfully complete all 12 units of competency as stated in the Course Structure will be issued with RII60520 Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design. This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
Students that complete some but not all of the units of competency as stated in the Course Structure may be issued with a Statement of Attainment. It will identify only those units of competence that have been completed as part of the qualification and recognised nationally under the AQF.
