Introduction to the ACCA Programme

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is a global professional accounting body that offers the "Chartered Certified Accountant" qualification. The ACCA programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of accounting and finance, and to equip them with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the industry.

Course Structure

The ACCA programme is divided into three levels: Applied Knowledge, Applied Skills, and Strategic Professional.


Applied Knowledge

  • Business and Technology (BT)
  • Management Accounting (MA)
  • Financial Accounting (FA)

Applied Skills

  • Corporate and Business Law (LW)
  • Performance Management (PM)
  • Taxation (TX)
  • Financial Reporting (FR)
  • Audit and Assurance (AA)
  • Financial Management (FM)

Strategic Professional

  • Strategic Business Leader (SBL)
  • Strategic Business Reporting (SBR)
    • Options (any two):
      • Advanced Financial Management (AFM)
      • Advanced Performance Management (APM)
      • Advanced Taxation (ATX)
      • Advanced Audit and Assurance (AAA)

Course Requirements

To be eligible for the ACCA programme, students must meet the following requirements:


  • Two A-levels and three GCSEs (or their equivalent) in five separate subjects, including English and Maths.
  • Students who do not meet the minimum entry requirements can join the ACCA by first completing the Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) programme.

Exam Cycles

ACCA runs four exam sessions a year:


  • March session: 1 January - 31 March
  • June session: 1 April - 30 June
  • September session: 1 July - 30 September
  • December session: 1 October - 31 December

Qualification Requirements

To qualify as an ACCA member, students must:


  • Complete 13 exams (maximum nine are eligible for exemptions)
  • Gain 36 months of related practical experience (before, during, or after exams)
  • Complete the online Ethics and Professional Skills (EPSM) module
