MSc Psychology (Conversion course)

Course Overview

The MSc Psychology (Conversion course) is designed for graduates who have studied other subjects and want to pursue a career in psychology. The course covers key areas of social, biological, cognitive, developmental psychology, and individual differences. Students will develop strong research and data analytic skills in both qualitative and quantitative methods, preparing them for carrying out their own independent psychology research project.

Course Details

Learning and Teaching

Teaching is primarily through a combination of lectures and seminars, allowing opportunities to discuss and develop understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups.

Assessment

We use a range of methods for assessing learning, including essays, portfolios, supervised independent work, presentations, research proposals, blog posts, articles, written exams, or practical exams.

Entry Requirements

• A first or second-class honours degree
• Normally a first or second-class Honours degree
• If English is not your first language: IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in writing

Additional Tuition Fee Information

Career Prospects

Those wishing to pursue professional careers in psychology need to undertake further study and training to gain professional recognition as a Chartered Psychologist. Graduates will be eligible to apply for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership status, which is an entry requirement for many accredited postgraduate training courses in psychology.

Programme Leader

Dr David Giles is a Reader in Media Psychology. After working for several years as a freelance music journalist for publications such as NME and the Independent, he studied Psychology at the University of Manchester and did a PhD with the University of Bristol looking at children's spelling.
