Program Overview

The Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) ETH in Future Heritage is a continuing education program that focuses on the preservation and development of existing buildings and monuments. The program aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge and skills to recognize and preserve the qualities of existing buildings, and to develop strategies for their sustainable use.

Program Structure

The CAS program is designed to be completed part-time over one semester. The program consists of lectures, seminars, excursions, and workshops, which provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the concepts and methods of monument preservation.

Program Goals

The program's primary goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop appropriate strategies for protected and potential objects. The program also aims to promote the exchange of experiences and networking among students.

Admission Requirements

The program is designed for professionals in the field of architecture who want to shape the built culture through renovation and new construction of protected and non-protected, high-quality buildings. Applicants must have a recognized Master's degree in architecture or a related field, and preferably have professional experience.

Language Requirements

The program is taught in German, and applicants must have a C1 level of proficiency in German.

Program Costs

The program costs CHF 7,000, plus additional costs for excursions of up to CHF 500. A non-refundable application fee of CHF 50 (for individuals with a Swiss university degree) or CHF 150 (for individuals with a non-Swiss university degree) is also required.

The program is led by Prof. Dr. Silke Langenberg (Program Delegate) and Prof. Dr. Stefan M. Holzer (Deputy Program Delegate), with Matthias Brenner serving as Program Coordinator.

The program is part of the four-semester MAS ETH in Denkmalpflege and Konstruktionsgeschichte. After successfully completing the CAS program, students can enter the MAS program. Guest lectures may also be held in English.
