Overview

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a four-year full-time program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become effective primary school teachers. The program combines university study with practical school-based learning, developing skills in literacy and numeracy, diversity and differentiated learning, leadership, and research.


Program Structure

The program features a range of courses, including:


  • A Sociological Orientation to Education
  • Early Years Curriculum and Pedagogical Foundations
  • Mathematics and Numeracy for Quality Teaching in the Primary Years
  • Learning and Development for Educators

Students can choose one of four minors to further develop their content knowledge: English and Literacy, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics and Numeracy, or Science.


Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the program, students must meet the following prerequisites:


  • General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C)
  • One of General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C)

The minimum entry score is:


  • ATAR / Rank: 75
  • IB: 28.25

How to Apply

Domestic students can apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC), while international students can submit their application directly to the University of Queensland. The program code for the Bachelor of Education (Primary) is 2306.


Additional Information

Students are required to have a current Blue Card before commencing practicum and must successfully meet the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) standards prior to graduation. The program is accredited by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership.
