Introduction to the Program

The Program in Chinese Philosophy and Culture (EMA) at Fudan University was launched in 2011, aiming to provide Chinese language and research training for international students and advanced undergraduate students. The program consists of three parts: Master's Program, Visiting Student Program, and Audit Program, catering to different student needs.

Program Structure

• Master's Program: a two-year program open to students who have obtained a bachelor's degree, with a focus on Chinese philosophy and culture. Students are required to complete 27 credits, including 6 credits of Chinese language courses, 15 credits of specialized courses, and 6 credits of elective courses.
• Visiting Student Program: a one-year program open to research students or undergraduate students in their third or fourth year, with a focus on Chinese philosophy and culture. Students are required to complete 3-4 specialized courses and 1-2 language courses.
• Audit Program: based on individual courses, open to students who have obtained a bachelor's degree or completed their third year of undergraduate studies. Students can earn credits for completed courses, which can be transferred to the Master's Program or Visiting Student Program.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

• Tuition fee: 50,000 RMB per year.
• Accommodation: monthly stipend of 1,350-2,400 RMB.
• Food allowance: approximately 1,000 RMB per month.
• Scholarships: available for students, including Chinese Government Scholarships, Confucius Institute Scholarships, Fudan Student Fellowships, and Fudan University Philosophy School Scholarships.

Application Requirements

• Application fee: 400 RMB (Master's Program) or 300 RMB (Visiting Student Program or Audit Program).

  • Diploma and transcript of academic records.
  • Certificate of language proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS).
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Personal statement (1,000 words or less).
  • Writing sample (500 words or less).
  • List of academic works (if applicable).
• Application deadline: May 1st (priority deadline: February 22nd).
