Undergraduate Programmes

The university offers various undergraduate programmes with different aspects of sustainability incorporated in their curriculum. These programmes aim to develop students with critical skills to collaborate across disciplines and address sustainability challenges.


Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with Second Major in Future Foods

This second major incorporates relevant courses across the College of Engineering and College of Science to provide students with the foundation and practical tools for understanding the concepts of food sustainability and applying them to real-world scenarios. The programme focuses on sustainable food and nutrition, with compulsory courses including Food Chemistry & Nutrition, Future Foods – Introduction to Advanced Meat Alternatives, Food Standard – Food Safety & Risk Assessment, Food Process Technologies and Production System, and Data Analytics in Food Systems.


Learning Outcomes

Students will achieve the following learning outcomes:


  • Sustainability, including environmental impact on food production
  • Future Foods, including novel foods such as plant-based proteins, fermentation-based foods, and cultivated meats
  • Nutrition Security, including analysis of nutrition profile and consumer health benefits from diets incorporating future foods

Admission Requirements

The minimum subject requirements for admission are:


  • GCE A-Level: H1 Level pass in Mathematics, and H2 Level pass in Physics/Chemistry/Biology
  • Polytechnic Diplomas: Relevant diploma
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma: Mathematics at Standard Level, and Physics/Chemistry/Biology at Higher Level
  • NUS High School Diploma: Major CAP of 2.0 in Mathematics, and Major CAP of 2.0 in Physics/Chemistry/Biology
  • International Qualifications: A good grade at Additional Mathematics at Junior High School Level, and Physics/Chemistry/Biology at Senior High School Level

Programme Structure

This is a full-time four-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biological Sciences with a 2nd major in Future Foods. Students must pursue such courses of study as may be prescribed by Regulations made by the Academic Board on the recommendation of the School of Biological Sciences.


Requirements for Graduation

For successful completion of the programme and to be eligible for graduation, students are required to:


  1. Obtain a total of not less than 132 academic units within the maximum period permitted, unless granted exemption by the School from taking certain courses, on a case-by-case basis
  2. Maintain a CGPA of at least 4.0 throughout their course of study
  3. Complete a minimum of 30AUs of Future Foods courses for AY2024 intake and onwards
  4. Gain a pass grade in all the Major and general education requirement courses as determined by the School of Biological Sciences
  5. Fulfill other such requirements as may be prescribed by the Academic Board
