Online Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity Management

The Online Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity Management is a fully online, part-time, five-course (15-credit-hour) graduate certificate designed for mid- and senior-level cybersecurity professionals. The goal of the program is to educate cybersecurity practitioners in the fundamentals of managing the people, technology, and resources necessary to lead cybersecurity organizations.


Overview

As technology and cybersecurity threats continue to grow and evolve, so does the need for highly skilled cybersecurity leaders who can direct and protect critical information infrastructures. Securing an organization's data requires a refined combination of technical skills, managerial acumen, and leadership expertise. The curriculum provides students with the knowledge needed to protect from, defend against, respond to, and recover after cyber threats and to manage the organization's technology-based risk exposure.


Program Details

  • Graduate Certificate: 15 units, 10-15 months to complete
  • The program places particular emphasis on business-related skills such as communicating with non-technical line-of-business leaders and peers, speaking the language of business, and strategy formulation and development.
  • Graduates of this certificate program will be well prepared to step into positions of greater responsibility and to make larger and more consequential contributions to their organizations.

  • CYBER 5559 Introduction to Cybersecurity: A comprehensive introduction to the cybersecurity field, covering a broad range of cybersecurity terms, definitions, historical perspectives, concepts, processes, technologies, and trends with a focus on managing risk and the employment of cybersecurity as an organizational enabler. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5560 Cybersecurity Technical Fundamentals: A comprehensive survey of cybersecurity technology, including basic theory and concepts. Students will gain hands-on familiarity with cybersecurity technology through lab exercises, in-class studios, and scenarios. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5561 Oversight for Excellence: Cybersecurity Management and Governance: A comprehensive approach to the management of the organizational cybersecurity function, exploring the principles of information technology governance. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5562 Efficient and Effective Cybersecurity Operations: Understanding of what it takes to manage the people, process, and technology for effective and efficient day-to-day cybersecurity operations, using the Cybersecurity Operations Center (CSOC) as the fundamental exemplar. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5563 Enterprise Network Security: A detailed and comprehensive study of the architecture and defensive approaches to protect enterprise network environments against cyber threats. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5564 Access Control and Identity Management: Understanding of organizational and technical identity management and access control frameworks, including central concepts such as least privileged access, authentication, and authorization. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5565 Cybersecurity Analytics: An introduction to the use of data analytics in support of an organization's cybersecurity function, designed to increase student understanding of how data analytics can be used to manage security and how data analytics can be deployed in support of risk-based assessment and decision making. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5566 Cybersecurity Risk Management: A deeper appreciation of the challenges faced by enterprises when addressing cybersecurity risks, covering the evolution of cyber threats, including attacker methods and their targets across different industries. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5567 The Hacker Mindset: Cyber Attack Fundamentals: An introductory understanding of how offensive security techniques practically operate, using hacking techniques to compromise systems, collect data, and perform other tasks. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5568 Emerging Issues and Technology in Cybersecurity: Examination of contemporary and near-future cybersecurity threats and the potential security impact of new technologies. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5569 Incident Response and Business Continuity: The end-to-end process and methods to deal with cybersecurity incidents, including developing an incident response plan, organizing an incident response team, and post-breach restoration. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5570 Leadership Seminar for Technology Professionals: Development of the leadership capacity of professionals working in the information technology and cybersecurity fields, integrating domain expertise with the ability to lead people. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5587 Cloud Security: Best practices for cloud security, including methods for architecting and applying security-related features in a cloud platform. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5998 Applied Research Study: An advanced, project-based course allowing students to develop in-depth knowledge and further their education by building on the education offered in the Programs. (Credit 3 units)
  • CYBER 5999 Independent Study: Submission of the Independent Study Proposal with Approval of the Faculty Sponsor and Program Director. (Credit 3 units)
