The Master's Degree in Education - Secondary Education is a program designed for individuals who hold a bachelor's degree and want to become licensed secondary school teachers in either English or social studies.

Program Overview

The Master's Program in Secondary Education at the University of Kentucky prepares future educators to become certified teachers for middle and high school classrooms. • The program offers initial teaching certification options in:
  • Secondary English
  • Secondary Social Studies
• The Master of Arts in Secondary Education with Initial Certification (MIC) is an intensive one calendar-year program of 31 credit hours, leading to both a master's degree and initial teacher certification in Kentucky.
• The program includes a number of required courses designed to immerse students in the educational methodologies needed to become a teacher at the secondary level.
• Students also complete a fall practicum experience and a spring student teaching experience.
