Program Overview

The MCD1. Llengua de Signes i Comunitat Sorda: Iniciació a l’Estudi Lingüístic i Sociolingüístic is a microcredential program dedicated to the study of sign languages and the deaf community as a linguistic community with its own values, traditions, language, and characteristics of a sociolinguistic minority.

• Dates: 26/09/2025 - 12/2025 (1st trimester)
• Brief Description: This microcredential focuses on the study of the grammar of Catalan Sign Language (LSC) at an elementary level and the characteristic traits and defining features of the psychosociology and history of deaf people. The language of instruction is LSC, and it is addressed to signers with a high level of competence in LSC.

Course Structure

• Iniciació a l’estudi de les llengües de signes (Introduction to the Study of Sign Languages): 4 ECTS, 1st trimester
• Psicosociologia i història de la comunitat sorda (Psychosociology and History of the Deaf Community): 4 ECTS, 1st trimester

Teaching Methodology

• Modality: Semipresential
• Schedule (1st trimester):
  • Iniciació a l’estudi de les llengües de signes: Fridays from 15:00 to 17:00 at the Poblenou Campus
  • Psicosociologia i història de la comunitat sorda: Saturdays from 9:30 to 13:30, with hybrid teaching (online and at the Ciutadella Campus)

Fees and Funding

• Price: 1,000 euros
• Reduced Price: 300 euros (applicable to residents of the Spanish State and individuals between 25 and 64 years old, thanks to the subsidy of the "Plan for the Development of University Microcredentials")
• Additional Funding: The first 20 individuals enrolled in this microcredential who meet the requirements for the Beca Santander: Microcredencials 2025 will receive an aid of 300 euros after the enrollment process. To be eligible, it is essential to submit the application through the Santander platform from September 3 to November 4, 2025 (inclusive).

Admission Requirements

• Language Competence: Minimum B2 level in LSC

This microcredential is offered in collaboration with the Federació de Persones Sordes de Catalunya (FESOCA).
