BEng in Mechatronics
The BEng in Mechatronics is a 3.5-year undergraduate program that combines mechanics, electronics, and software to develop intelligent products. The program is offered at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Sønderborg.
About the Program
The program provides students with broad technical knowledge through basic courses in mechanics, electronics, programming, mathematics, and physics. Students will have the opportunity to specialize via electives, internships, and graduation projects.
Entry Requirements and Admission
- The application deadline for international students is March 15th at 12:00 noon.
- The required GPA in 2025 is all qualified applicants admitted.
- The allocation in quota 1/quota 2 is 65/35.

Program Structure
The program consists of a combination of theoretical courses and project work. Students will work in project groups to solve problems for companies through case-based work.
- The first semester focuses on learning what mechatronics is and what it takes to develop mechatronics products.
- The second semester provides an understanding of system components and their interactions.
- The third semester builds on the knowledge gained about mechatronics and the development of mechatronic products.
- The fourth semester provides basic knowledge about regulatory systems and how they are integrated into a product.
- The fifth semester allows students to specialize in electives while strengthening their interdisciplinary skills in an interdisciplinary project (Experts in Teams). Students can also study this semester abroad.
- The sixth semester includes a mandatory internship in a company, which can be spent in Denmark or abroad.
- The seventh and final semester involves preparing a graduation project, often in cooperation with a company.
