Introduction to the M.S. in Industrial Pharmacy
The M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences with an emphasis in Industrial Pharmacy is a unique, non-thesis program designed for B.S. graduates in chemical engineering, pharmacy, biology, or chemistry who are looking to launch a career in the pharmaceutical industry. This program offers both fundamental and applied knowledge in industrial pharmacy, equipping students with the skills to thrive in this fast-paced field.
About the Program
In the first year, all students follow a core curriculum that lays a strong foundation in the key principles of industrial pharmacy. In the second year, students choose between two specialized tracks:
- Regulatory Sciences: This track prepares students for careers in regulatory affairs or quality assurance, giving them the expertise to navigate the complex regulatory landscape of the pharmaceutical industry.
- Product Development and Manufacturing: This track focuses on formulation development, process development, manufacturing, or quality control, providing the hands-on skills necessary to innovate in drug production and ensure quality standards are met.
Additionally, all students will take part in a Special Projects course, where they tackle real-world projects with tight deadlinesjust like in the industry. This experience prepares students to hit the ground running in their career, whether theyre pursuing regulatory roles or developing the next breakthrough pharmaceutical products.

A Masters of Pharmaceutical Sciences with an emphasis in Industrial Pharmacy requires students to complete a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework and 6 project hours.

Seminar Requirements
Students are required to register for Seminar in Current Pharmaceutical Topics (PHAR 543 or PHAR 544) every semester. No more than 1 seminar hour can be used toward the 27 minimum total credit hours.
Other Academic Requirements
The M.S. in pharmaceutical sciences with an emphasis in industrial pharmacy does not require the completion of a thesis or an examination process. Students will complete 6 hours of special projects that complement ongoing research in the department instead of a thesis project.
Admission Criteria
Admission to the graduate program in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery is open to superior students with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy, chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, biotechnology, or a related area. A B average or better in undergraduate coursework is required for consideration for admission. Admission is competitive, so it is unlikely that all students meeting the minimum requirements will be admitted.
Application Deadline
The deadline for application submission is April 1 (rolling) for Fall admission and October 1 (rolling) for Spring admission.
English Proficiency
International applicants also must submit an English Proficiency Test score. To be considered for full-standing admission, the applicant needs to submit scores of at least 79 on the TOEFL (ibt) or six on the IELTS.
Letters of Recommendation and Statement of Purpose
Two letters of recommendation, a resume, and a statement of purpose are used to evaluate candidates.
