Program Overview

The Cardiac Electrophysiology Technology, AS (Online) program is offered by the School of Allied Health Professions. Electrophysiology (EP) is an emerging healthcare science and therapy that focuses on diagnosing and treating cardiac arrhythmias. Technologists assist cardiologists during diagnostic and invasive procedures.


Program Description

The program description highlights that EP is a subspecialty of cardiology. Technologists are involved in procedures such as programmed electrical stimulation, sterile scrub technique, electro-anatomical 3D mapping, catheter ablation for cardiac arrhythmias, and device implantation for cardiac rhythm management, including pacemakers and other advanced implantable devices.

Admissions Requirements

The minimum GPA required for admission is 2.5. Prerequisites should be completed before beginning the program.


Prerequisites

To be eligible for admission, applicants must complete a minimum of 39 quarter units (26 semester units) at an accredited college or university. A high school diploma or GED is also required. The minimum subject/prerequisite requirements include:


  • Anatomy and physiology with lab (complete sequence)
  • Medical Terminology
  • Choose one from the following: general psychology, general sociology, cultural anthropology
  • College English composition (complete sequence)
  • Introduction to computers (college or high school)
  • Electives to meet the minimum total requirement of 39 quarter (26 semester) units

Discipline Accrediting Agency

The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT).

The cost of attendance varies from year to year. The office of Student Accounts should be contacted for up-to-date costs. Estimated amounts are for the academic year specified only and are based on full-time attendance. International students need to calculate 12 months of living expenses based on these amounts. Amounts are expected to increase each year consistent with inflation in the professional education sector. To qualify for financial aid, most students must be enrolled at least half-time in an aid-eligible program and be taking degree requirements. Half-time is 6 units in a quarter for undergraduate programs and 4 units in a quarter for graduate programs.
