Program Description

The Health Information Management Certificate program is designed for professionals with a bachelor's degree. The program involves six quarters of instruction and clinical affiliations, with an academic load of 85 units, which may be reduced depending on previous instruction received.


Profession

The success of a team of healthcare professionals relies on organized information to make decisions and patient care plans. Health information managers bring together data to assist the healthcare team, patients, and administration staff. This role is challenging and rewarding, with opportunities in policy-making, financial management, decision support, and research in various healthcare sectors.


Professional Registration and Certification

Upon completion of the certificate, graduates are eligible to write the qualifying examination of the American Health Information Management Association for the designation of RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator).


Program Length

The program lasts 2 years, consisting of 6 quarters.

Admissions Requirements

To be admitted, students must have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. C-minus grades are not acceptable for transfer credit.

  • International students need to calculate 12 months of living expenses based on these amounts.
  • Amounts are expected to increase each year consistent with inflation in the professional education sector.
  • To qualify for financial aid, most students must be enrolled at least half-time in an aid-eligible program and be taking degree requirements. Half-time is 6 units in a quarter for undergraduate programs and 4 units in a quarter for graduate programs.
