Master of Science in Economic Transformation and Innovation

The Master of Science in Economic Transformation and Innovation is a two-year program that provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to understand, navigate, and lead change in a rapidly evolving economy. The program combines economics, management, and public policy to address the challenges of economic transformation.

The program is designed to provide students with a solid academic foundation, practical experience, and international perspectives. The curriculum explores how industries and regions adapt to sustainable solutions, with the Stavanger region serving as a relevant case study. Students will study topics such as innovation, sustainability, regional development, and applied social science methods.

Programme Structure

The two-year program consists of 120 ECTS credits and is divided into four semesters. The first year includes compulsory courses, while the second year offers opportunities for specialization through electives, internships, or exchange. The program concludes with a master's thesis or a capstone project.

Year 2

    • Internship (30 ECTS)
    • International exchange (30 ECTS)

  • Masters thesis or Capstone project (30 ECTS)

Knowledge and Skills

Graduates will gain advanced knowledge of economic transformation, sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship, as well as skills in data analysis, strategy design, entrepreneurship, and policy development. They will also develop the ability to lead organizational and societal change responsibly and competence in interdisciplinary collaboration.

Graduates will be prepared for careers in the public sector, private sector, third sector, and academia. They will have the opportunity to work in sustainability management, innovation management, consulting, entrepreneurship, and business development, among other fields.

• Thorough knowledge of the tools and limits of innovation and transformation policy

• Ability to design transformative strategies and policies in an independent manner

Academic Requirements

A bachelor's degree in social sciences or humanities is required, with at least 80 ECTS credits in one or more of the following subject areas or equivalent:

• Hotel and hospitality
• Media studies
• Development studies Minimum 7.5 ECTS within research method is required, and a minimum grade average comparable to a Norwegian C on the ECTS scale.
