Bachelor in History
The Bachelor in History program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the human past, its impact on the present and future, and the various historical contexts that shape our perception of the world.
Education Objectives
The program aims to achieve the following education objectives:
- To have a critical view of the human past and its conditioning of the present and future.
- To reveal an understanding of different historical perspectives in various cultural and geographical contexts.
- To be aware of how historical interests, categories, and problems change over time and their link to economic, social, political, and cultural interests.
- To be familiar with the different periods in the History of Portugal.
- To have general knowledge of the methods, techniques, and topics related to the study of major historical periods from Pre-history to the present day.
- To know how to integrate the history of Portugal into a comparative perspective with other spatial and cultural areas.
- To know how to identify, select, and collect a wide variety of sources of information and use them critically.
- To be able to apply acquired knowledge and understanding to a historical topic or seek an understanding of current world issues.
- To be able to present knowledge acquired in writing and orally using correct History terminology and demonstrating argumentative skills.

Degree Pre-requisites
Each student must obtain 180 credits:
- 132 credits from compulsory courses
- 18 credits from programme-restricted electives
- 30 credits from unrestricted electives or a Minor from another academic area. In their 1st year, students should not enrol in more than 30 credits per semester, respecting precedence rules when they have been set.
Conditions of Admittance
Students can be admitted to the Licenciatura Degree in History through the National Call for enrollment in Higher Education, Special Contests, and Special Access Regimes. Additionally, students can gain admission through Readmission or the Change of Institution/Course regime.
Evaluation Rules
Students are assessed based on work carried out over a semester, including class participation, presentation of oral and written papers, and tests and exams taken. The results are expressed on a scale from 0 to 20. To pass, students must have at least 10 marks. Students who fail have a second chance to retake the final exam. Special assessment regimes are available for student-workers, students with competitive athlete status, student mothers and fathers, association leaders, military personnel, and other special regimes provisioned by law.

Minor at NOVA FCSH
- Minimum: 30 ECTS
- Maximum: 60 ECTS Students must select five course units from those offered within the Minor, ensuring that the selected units are not part of the curriculum of the degree program in which the student is currently enrolled. Additionally, students may select no more than two course units from each of the degree programs offered by other departments participating in the Minor.
