Introduction to Labor Law: Foundations and Principles

The University of Hamburg's Center for Continuing Education offers a comprehensive program in labor law, designed for non-lawyers and professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge in this field. This berufsbegleitende Weiterbildung (continuing education program) provides participants with a solid understanding of labor law principles, enabling them to make informed decisions in their professional capacities.


Program Objectives

The primary objective of this program is to equip participants with foundational knowledge of labor law, focusing on practical applications and current legal precedents. Upon completion, participants will be able to navigate complex labor law issues, contribute to decision-making processes, and interact confidently with legal professionals.


Curriculum

The program covers a wide range of topics, including:


  • Einstellungs- und Auswahlverfahren (Hiring and Selection Procedures)
  • Arbeitsvertragsgestaltung (Employment Contract Design)
  • Kündigungsschutzrecht und Arbeitsgerichtsverfahren (Termination Protection Law and Labor Court Procedures)
  • Kollektives Arbeitsrecht, Tarifrecht, Betriebsverfassungsrecht (Collective Labor Law, Tariff Law, Works Constitution Act)
  • Praxistransfer und aktuelle Rechtsprechung (Practical Applications and Current Jurisprudence)

Teaching Methodology

The program adopts a blended learning approach, combining live online sessions via Zoom with in-person seminars at the Center for Continuing Education. This methodology facilitates direct interaction between instructors and participants, ensuring a engaging and effective learning experience.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive a Universitätszertifikat (University Certificate) with 4 ECTS credits. To qualify for the certificate, participants must attend at least 75% of the sessions, complete assigned tasks, and pass a final examination.

  • At least one year of work experience

Duration and Schedule

The program consists of 120 hours, spread over four weekends, with a mix of live online and in-person sessions. The schedule includes:


  • 60 hours of seminars (equivalent to 80 teaching hours)
  • 60 hours of self-study

Fees

The program fee is €1,270 (as of February 2025), payable in a single installment or four monthly installments of €317.50 each.
