Introduction to the China Studies Program (CSP) Ph.D. Fellowships
The China Studies Program (CSP) is a research opportunity provided by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, uniting top universities and outstanding scholars in China to support overseas young scholars in the field of China studies during their doctoral study. The program includes two types of fellowships: Ph.D. in China Fellowship and Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship.
Program Overview
- The Ph.D. in China Fellowship supports outstanding foreign master's degree holders in pursuing doctoral degrees at Chinese universities, with a focus on China-related research in humanities and social sciences.
- The Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship provides funds to outstanding foreign doctoral students registered at foreign universities to come to China for study, joint research, or doctoral dissertation writing.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the CSP, applicants must:
- Be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
- Have solid academic foundations and a targeted research topic or goal.
- Be able to conduct research in Chinese and have a global vision for academic pursuit.
- Thoroughly understand international academic norms and participate in international academic exchange and research.
- Applicants for the Ph.D. Fellowship program in China should have an HSK (Level V) certificate with 180 points or above.
- Applicants for the Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship program should have an HSK (Level III) certificate with 180 points or above.
- Priority is given to those with a higher level of proficiency in Chinese under the same conditions.
Scholarship Coverage
Recipients of the CSP are provided with financial support, including:
- Tuition fees
- Living and research stipends
- International travel expenses They will also receive professional guidance from mentors from Chinese and foreign universities and have in-depth interaction with Chinese and foreign scholars through participating in tailored forums, seminars, workshops, and other academic activities.
Application Procedures
- Online application for the CSP Ph.D. Fellowship program in China.
- Online application for SYSU CSP Ph.D. Fellowships.
- Scholarship review by SYSU and a panel of experts from the Center for Language Education and Cooperation.
Application Materials
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- The first page of a valid ordinary passport and a personal profile photo.
- Diploma, certificates, and verification reports of master's degree and bachelor's degree.
- Complete transcripts of undergraduate and graduate studies.
- Chinese proficiency certificate (HSK level V for Ph.D. Fellowship, HSK level III for Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship).
- Recommendation Letter from experts in related fields.
- Research Proposal (research plan for Ph.D. Fellowship, plan for studying in China for Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship).
- Research publications (master's thesis abstract and other research publications).
- Physical examination and blood test results.
- Certificate of Non-Criminal Record.
- Application form for fellowship program.
- Supporting documents (award certificates or proof of experience).
- Commitment letter.
- Application information form.
Application Deadline
The application deadline is February 28th, 2025.
Additional Requirements
- Admitted students must complete registration procedures with a study visa according to the registration date required by SYSU.
- Admitted students are required to participate in the annual scholarship review according to regulations.
- Failure to meet these requirements may result in deprivation of the scholarship.
