Introduction to Sun Yat-sen University

Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) has an educational tradition spanning over 100 years. As a university directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education of China and with the strong support of the Ministry of Education of China and Guangdong Province, SYSU has become a first-class modern comprehensive university, renowned both in China and in the world.

Eligibility for International Students

To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be non-Chinese with a valid foreign passport
• Meet the requirements stipulated in the Notice on the Regulations of Chinese Universities' Acceptance of International Students
• Be in good health and meet the physical standards required for applying for a student visa or residence permit
• Be high school graduates or above
• Be friendly to China, hardworking, and diligent in their studies with excellent academic performance
• Hold an HSK (Level V) certificate (with 180 points or above) for most programs, or an HSK (Level IV) certificate (with 180 points or above) for bachelor's degree programs in Chinese Language

Application Deadline and Procedure

• The application deadline is April 30th, 2024
• Applicants should go to the website of the Office of International Students' Affairs of Sun Yat-sen University, click "APPLICATION", enter, register, and log in to the International Student Management System
• Applicants should then select an applicable program, fill in the information accurately and completely as required, and upload the following supporting documents:
  • Valid ordinary passport and personal profile photo
  • High school graduation certificate
  • Proof of financial status
  • Recommendation letters
  • Standardized test transcripts and complete transcripts from the highest level of education
  • Chinese language proficiency certificate
  • Personal statement
  • Physical examination and blood test results
  • Documents certifying the nationality of the applicant and his/her parents
  • Certificate of Non-Criminal Record
  • Guardian's guarantee and notarized certificate (for applicants under 18)
  • Scholarship application form (if applicable)
  • Supporting documents (if applicable)
  • Commitment letter
  • Personal Information Form

Selection Procedures

The selection procedures include:

1. Qualification Review: SYSU will review the applicant's foreign status, highest academic qualifications, recommendations, academic performance, Chinese language proficiency, and other supporting documents
2. Assessment: After the application deadline, SYSU will issue an assessment notice, and applicants who pass the qualification examination must participate in an assessment, which may include an interview and/or written examination
3. Admission: SYSU will select applicants based on their qualifications and assessment results, and outstanding new students will be recommended for scholarship applications

Fees

The tuition fees for international students are as follows:

• Liberal Arts, Economics, and Managerial Science: 26,000 RMB per academic year
• Natural Science and Engineering: 33,800 RMB per academic year
• Medical Science: 48,000 RMB per academic year
• Registration Fee (including necessary admission assessment fees): 400 RMB per person
• Comprehensive insurance for international students: 800 RMB per person per academic year

Scholarship

The university offers several scholarship programs for outstanding undergraduate international students, including:

• Chinese Government Scholarship—Bilateral Program (Full or Partial Scholarship)
• Silk Road - Chinese Government Scholarship (Full Scholarship)
• SYSU "Belt and Road" Scholarship
• Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship

Regulations on Accommodation and Insurance

• Self-funded students should handle accommodation by themselves
• International students must insure themselves in accordance with the relevant regulations of China and SYSU
• Students who have no insurance after the time limit has expired will not be allowed to register or be forced to drop out if they have already begun studying at SYSU

Supervision

• Admitted students must complete registration procedures according to the registration date and location required in the Admission Letter
• Applicants who have fabricated materials to obtain admissions will have their admission qualifications and student status canceled by SYSU
• The SYSU Office of International Students' Affairs performs the supervisory duties of the admissions

Supplementary Provisions

• This guide is applicable to the enrollment work for 2024 International Students (Bachelor's Degree) of SYSU
• The university reserves the right to explain this guide, and if the policies of the Ministry of Education and relevant departments are adjusted, the new regulations shall be implemented accordingly
