Introduction to the International Chinese Language Education Master Program
The International Chinese Language Education Master Program at Shandong University is a 2-year program designed for international students. The program aims to cultivate professionals in the field of Chinese language education.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- General Requirements: Applicants must be physically and mentally healthy, friendly to China, have no criminal record, and be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport.
- Language Proficiency Requirements: Applicants must pass the HSK Level 6 examination (score of 180 or above). Applicants with the highest level of education taught in Chinese are exempt from providing an HSK certificate, but must provide proof of the language of instruction.

The application timelines for different types of scholarships are as follows:
- Self-financed Program: From now to May 31, 2025
- Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A): Please consult the relevant dispatch authority of the host country for specific information
- Chinese Government Scholarship (Type B): From now to February 16, 2025
- International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship: From now to May 15, 2025
- Jinan Sister City Scholarship: From now to March 1, 2025
- Shandong University Scholarship for Outstanding International Students: From now to April 1, 2025
Academic Programs
The International Chinese Language Education Master Program is a 2-year program.
Application Procedures
Applicants must register an account and complete the application on the Shandong University Application System for International Students. Hard copies of application documents are not needed.
Application Documents
Applicants are required to ensure the authenticity and accuracy of the provided application information and materials. The required documents include:
- Personal information page of the passport
- Undergraduate diploma/degree certificate or pre-graduation certificate
- Transcript of all undergraduate courses
- Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors
- Letter of motivation in Chinese
- HSK certificate (if applicable)
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form
- Certificate of No Criminal Record
- Scanned copies of financial guarantee materials (if applicable)

Examination and Admission
The university will assess applicants through a review of their application documents, interviews, and other methods. Admission will be based on the final grades.
Registration
Admitted students must strictly follow the time specified in the admission letter to register at Shandong University. During registration, the original copies of the graduation/degree certificate, language proficiency certificate, Foreigner Physical Examination Form, and other required documents will be verified.
Fees
The fees for the program include:
- Application fee: 400 RMB/person
- Tuition fee: 22,000 RMB/year
- Medical insurance fee: 800 RMB/person/year
- Accommodation fee: Varied based on the room type
Visa
Admitted students must take the electronic version of the admission letter and the Confirmation Form for Studying in China (JW201/202) to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate abroad to apply for a study visa.
