Program Overview

The Intensive English Program (IEP) at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) is designed to equip non-native English speakers with the language proficiency and academic skills necessary for success in university studies and professional communication in English-speaking environments.

Program Structure

The IEP is a 6.5-week immersive program with flexible start dates, designed to prepare students for academic and professional success.

Program Format

The program is offered in various formats to cater to different learning needs:

• Private Tutoring: Fully personalized, one-on-one sessions.
• Semi-Private: 2-3 students per session.
• Focused Group: 4-8 students, collaborative setup.
• Standard Cohort: 9-15 students, dynamic classroom.

Delivery and Evaluation

• Delivery Mode: On-campus at Canadian University Dubai.
• Evaluation: Placement test, mid-term assessment, and one mock IELTS exam.

Weekly Schedule

The IEP runs for 6.5 weeks with daily sessions from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday. The weekly schedule includes:

Week 1: Introductions & Personal Information

• Vocabulary: Family, jobs
• Listening: Introduction dialogues, fill-in-the-blank
• Reading: Biographies + comprehension questions
• Writing: "About Me"
• Mini IELTS (Speaking & Writing intro)

Week 2: Daily Life & Routines

• Speaking: Describe your day
• Vocabulary: Daily actions
• Grammar: Present Simple + adverbs
• Listening: Daily schedules
• Reading: Routines paragraph
• Writing: "Routines"
• IELTS Speaking Part 2

Week 3: Food and Drink

• Speaking: Favorite food/meal
• Vocabulary: Food types, meals, containers
• Grammar: Some/any
• Listening: Food-related dialogues
• Reading: Menu comprehension, restaurant reviews
• Writing: "My Eating Habits"
• Mini IELTS: Reading short menu

Week 4: Hobbies, Free Time, Health & Body

• Speaking: Hobbies and giving health advice
• Vocabulary: Activities, body, health
• Grammar: Like/love + -ing, should/shouldn't
• Listening: Free time activities, doctor's advice
• Reading: Hobby texts, health habits
• Writing: Hobbies & staying healthy
• IELTS Speaking Parts 2 & 3

Week 5: Places, Directions, School & Education

• Speaking: Describing your neighborhood
• Vocabulary: Places, prepositions, subjects
• Listening: Following map directions, student discussions
• Reading: Descriptions of places, school articles
• Writing: School experiences
• IELTS Listening & Reading Tasks

Week 6: Shopping, Money, Travel & Holidays

• Speaking: Shopping roleplay, describing a trip
• Vocabulary: Shops, prices, travel
• Grammar: This/that/these/those, past & future (going to/will)
• Listening: Shopping conversations, travel plans
• Reading: Travel blog/texts
• IELTS Speaking, Reading (multiple choice + matching)

Week 7: Review & IELTS Exam

• IELTS Test: Reading, Listening, Writing
• IELTS Test: Speaking

Admission Requirements

To ensure students are placed at the appropriate level, all applicants must complete a mandatory English Placement Test prior to enrolment.

• Purpose: Assess proficiency in grammar, reading, writing, and listening to place students in Beginner, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, or Advanced levels.
• Outcome: Determines starting level for a tailored learning experience.
• Prerequisites: No prior English qualifications required, just a willingness to learn.
