Introduction to the Construction Management Program

The Construction Management Master's degree program provides the knowledge and skills essential for successful leadership positions in the construction industry. The curriculum focuses on both fundamental knowledge and advanced topics.

About the Program

The program is STEM designated, recognizing its rigor and providing an added benefit for international students with extended optional practical training (OPT) with additional 24 months. The University of Houston Construction Management (CM) master program ranks in the Top 50 Construction programs in the United States and is the third-best construction program in Texas.

Program Options

We offer the following program options:

• Students residing in the USA:
  • For U.S. citizens and permanent residents, we offer a truly self-paced online program.
  • For international students, we offer a face-to-face program.
• Students NOT residing in the USA:
  • For students who will not reside in the U.S. during their course of study, we offer an overseas program which is a fully online program.

Degree Plan

The Construction Management Master's degree requires 31 semester hours. Prior to progressing to advanced skills courses, all applicants are required to take the fundamental courses (Estimating, Scheduling, and Contract Administration). Career-change students must consult with the CM Graduate Program Coordinator to develop a customized study plan.

Admission Requirements

Preferred backgrounds include construction management, engineering, architecture, design, urban planning, business management, and real estate. Applicants who completed their undergraduate degrees in a non-English speaking country must take one of the following tests: TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo. A TOEFL score of 550 is required (equivalent to 213 computerized test, or 79 on the iBT). The TOEFL score may not be more than 2 years old. The minimum IELTS score required is an overall band score of 6.5. The required minimum for the Duolingo exam is 105.

3. 1 Official Transcript of any coursework since your Bachelor's degree (Must arrive in a sealed envelope from your college or university.)
4. Official TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo test score report (if applicable)
5. A letter of intent describing the candidate's inspirations and benefits from the degree
6. Three letters of recommendation
7. Application fee

Deadlines

• For domestic applicants, the fall semester deadline is July 1 and the spring semester deadline is December 1.
• For international applicants, the fall semester deadline is April 1 and the spring deadline is October 1.
