Master in Equine Science

The Master in Equine Science is a 2-year program that aims to provide high-level training in the area of horse production and use. The program is coordinated by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and has the formal involvement of two other Schools of the University of Lisbon.

Objectives

The Master course in Equine Science aims to:

1. Provide high-level training in the area of horse production and use, based on updated technical and scientific knowledge.
2. Contribute to the development and consolidation of scientific research in this field, promoting the application of specialized knowledge on innovative methodologies and techniques.

Target Audience

The program is designed for:

1. Holders of a bachelor's or master's degree, or legal equivalent, in the areas of Veterinary, Animal Science, Agricultural and Biological Sciences or similar.
2. Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum within the sector of horse production and use, that is recognized by the Scientific Committee as suitable for attending the cycle of studies.

Structure

The program is coordinated by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and has the formal involvement of two other Schools of the University of Lisbon. The program also counts with the collaboration of relevant entities in the organization and functioning of this sector.

Partner Institutions

The program partners with the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art and the Portuguese Equestrian Federation, whose contributions are valuable in terms of the use of the horse and the organization of equestrian sport.

Application

Applications for the admission to the Master in Equine Science will take place in two periods:

1. 1st Period: March 1 to May 31 - National, European Union and International Students
2. 2nd Period: June 15 to August 30 - National and European Union Students

Operation & Schedule

The Master course takes place over 2 years, comprising a total of 120 ECTS. The program consists of a curricular part, during the first year, and a second year where students will carry out a curricular traineeship.

Format

Classes will be held in a face-to-face format, and the classes will be held in Portuguese, although there may be occasional classes in English.

Calendar

The program follows a specific calendar, with classes beginning on September 11, 2025, and ending on July 11, 2026.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee for the program is:

• National or equivalent student: 2,000 - 1st year, and 1,500 - 2nd year
• International student: 3,000 - 1st year, and 2,500 - 2nd year
