Introduction to the LICENCE LLCER Program

The LICENCE LLCER Langues, Littératures et Civilisations d'Europe centrale is a university program offered by the Faculté des Lettres at Sorbonne Université. This program is designed to provide students with a specialization in two languages of their choice from a wide range of languages offered by the faculty, including German, BCMS (Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Serbian), Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Czech, and an introduction to Yiddish.


Objectives

The primary objectives of the LICENCE LLCER program are:


  • To offer students a specialization in two languages from the vast array of languages taught at the Faculté des Lettres of Sorbonne Université.
  • To study the languages and cultures of Central Europe in a broad sense, from Germany to Russia and Eastern and Balkan Europe.
  • To invite students to discover the fascinating identities of multicultural regions and cities such as Berlin, Vienna, Prague, Bratislava, Warsaw, Krakow, Budapest, Belgrade, Sarajevo, etc.
  • To study the vast space extending from Germany to Russia under the sign of a shared history of an enlarged Europe, especially since the European enlargement in 2003.

Competences

The competences aimed at through this program include:


  • A solid formation in two languages of the region, adapted to the students' prior level (students can be beginners in both languages, and those who have studied German or Russian in high school will be integrated according to their level).
  • An opening to several disciplines: culture, history, history of ideas, art, geography, literature.
  • Tools and methods: writing, bibliography, computer and internet skills, research, oral presentations.

The program is open to individuals who hold a baccalaureate or equivalent.

The cost of this diploma program is based on the income of each trainee. The program is designed to be flexible, allowing students to pursue their interests in the languages and cultures of Central Europe.


Methods and Evaluation

The teachings, including lectures and directed work, are provided by a dynamic teaching team with strong links established over fifteen years. The assessment methods include:


  • Continuous Integral Control (CCI)
  • Mixed Control (CM)
  • Terminal Control (CT)

These methods are voted on for each academic year and are designed to assess the students' knowledge and competences in a comprehensive manner.


Additional Information

The LICENCE LLCER program offers several advantages, including the opportunity to participate in cultural and scientific activities proposed by the two UFRs and research centers, in partnership with the cultural institutes of the concerned areas. Additionally, the program favors student mobility by offering two semesters in partner universities through the ERASMUS exchange program, such as Berlin, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Warsaw, Krakow, Sarajevo, etc.


This program is innovative, providing a deep linguistic training in two Central and Eastern European languages and an in-depth study of the history and cultures of the entire region.
