Introduction to the Orthophonist Capacity Program
The Orthophonist Capacity program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become qualified orthophonists. This program is offered by the Faculty of Health at Sorbonne University and is recognized at the master's level.
Objectives
The primary objective of this program is to train students in the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of voice, articulation, and speech disorders. Additionally, the program aims to equip students with the skills to teach non-verbal communication methods to complement or replace these functions. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to work in various settings, including hospitals, specialized centers, and private practices.
Public and Prerequisites
The program is open to students with a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Reconversion professionals are also accepted. Admission to the program is selective and based on a dossier and interview.
Program Structure
The program consists of two cycles: the first cycle comprises six semesters, validated by the obtention of 180 European credits, corresponding to the license level. The second cycle comprises four semesters, validated by the obtention of 120 European credits, corresponding to the master's level. The program includes theoretical and practical teachings, as well as internships.
First Cycle
- Six semestres of formation validated by the obtention of 180 European credits
- Syllabus for orthophonie 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years
Second Cycle
- Four semestres of formation validated by the obtention of 120 European credits
- Syllabus for orthophonie 4th and 5th years
Methods and Pedagogical Means
The teaching (theoretical and practical) takes place over 5 years:
- Theoretical teaching: in the form of CM and TD spread over 5 years (3158 hours)
- Practical internships: spread over 5 years (2040 hours)
Control of Knowledge
- Aptitudes and acquisition of knowledge are assessed by continuous and regular monitoring and/or a terminal examination
- The second session takes place either directly at the end of the semester or from April to August for mutualized exams
Notes
- No compensation between UE
- Note 10/20 to validate the teaching
To Apply
Since the 2020 academic year, access to orthophonist studies is done through Parcoursup. There is no bridge, and integration is done directly in the 1st year. Access to orthophonist training in France is limited by a national numerus clausus and is therefore conditioned by entry through Parcoursup.
Peggy Gatignol
Peggy Gatignol is a professor at the Faculty of Health, Sorbonne University, and the director of studies at DUEFO Sorbonne University. Her research activities include semiology/physiology of speech/language, facial paralysis rehabilitation, and virtual rehabilitation.
