Bachelor of Health Information Management and Technology

The Bachelor of Health Information Management and Technology program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of health information management and technology. This program is concerned with planning, collecting, storing, retrieving, and disseminating healthcare data that doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers rely on to deliver quality healthcare.


Overview

Along with the advances and innovations taking place around the world in all disciplines, especially in the field of information technology, highly qualified personnel in the field of Health Information Management (HIM) are continuously in demand. The College of Public Health at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University offers this undergraduate program to meet the growing need for professionals in this field.

Admission

A student applying to the program is required to:


  • Meet all the admission requirements for Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University
  • Successfully pass the College of Public Health foundational year
  • Demonstrate an acceptable background in English language skills, mathematics, and data science
  • Maintain a GPA of no less than 3.5 out of 5

Year Description

First Year

The student must successfully complete the foundational year in the College of Public Health track.


Second Year

Students are introduced to the principles of health information management and technology through a series of courses designed to give them a solid foundation in this field.


Third Year

During the third year, students will study diagnostic and procedural coding, such as ICD-10-CM, current strategies of systems design, as well as different approaches to quality improvement (QI) in healthcare organizations. Students will also have the opportunity to master and practice their technical skills through practical professional experiences at a variety of recognized hospitals.


Fourth Year

The main focus of the fourth year is to provide students with the skills and problem-solving techniques necessary in their professional careers. They will be required to conduct a graduation project that demonstrates a strong understanding of scientific research.


Fifth Year (Internship Year)

Following the completion of the program of study, students are required to spend 12 months training in KFHU or another recognized hospital. The internship program provides students with the opportunity to integrate their knowledge along with the professional attributes acquired throughout their college careers. This internship year bridges the academic world with the professional world.
