Diploma in Surveying and Road Engineering
Program's Mission
To prepare scientifically and professionally qualified national cadres in surveying and road engineering to meet labor market needs through a distinguished educational and practical environment.
Educational Objectives
To equip students with the knowledge and understanding of modern concepts and fundamental principles in surveying and road engineering, and to develop their ability to effectively apply engineering tools and modern technologies.
Learning Outcomes
The graduate is proficient in modern concepts and theories in surveying and road construction, uses engineering and technical tools for fieldwork, and works effectively in multidisciplinary teams while committing to lifelong learning.
Study Plan
The study plan consists of four levels, with the following courses:
Level 1 – Diploma in Surveying Engineering
- 25121: Fundamentals of Computer and Its Applications (2 credit hours)
- This course introduces students to the fundamentals of computer systems, including hardware and software components, and develops essential skills for using computers and related technologies safely, ethically, and effectively.
- SVR 25111: Engineering Drawing (3 credit hours)
- This course introduces the basics of engineering drawing through freehand sketching and mechanical drawing.
- SVR 25121: Engineering Mechanics (3 credit hours)
- This course provides students with the fundamental principles of engineering mechanics through the study of statics and dynamics in planar systems.
- Total: 8 credit hours
Level 2 – Diploma in Surveying Engineering
- SVR 25122: Mechanics of Materials (3 credit hours)
- This course introduces the fundamentals of the mechanics of deformable materials.
- SVR 25131: Geology (3 credit hours)
- This course introduces the fundamentals of engineering geology, including earth surface features, physical properties of earth materials, plate tectonics, major geological processes, and structural geology.
- SVR 25141: Plane Surveying (3 credit hours)
- This course introduces the fundamentals of surveying and mapping, focusing on the measurement and representation of features on the earth's surface.
- SVR 25151: Fundamentals of Highway Engineering (3 credit hours)
- This course introduces the fundamental principles of highway engineering, including highway system development, functional classification, travel characteristics, and economic analysis.
- ENG26114: General English (2) (4 credit hours)
- This course aims to enhance students' English language proficiency by developing the four key skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
- Total: 16 credit hours
Level 3 – Diploma in Surveying Engineering
- SVR 25232: Soil Properties and Tests (3 credit hours)
- This course introduces students to the physical, hydraulic, and mechanical properties of soils and their classification based on engineering behavior through laboratory testing.
- SVR 25233: Surveying Applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (3 credit hours)
- This course introduces the fundamental concepts and practical applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in surveying.
- SVR 25242: Survey Drawing Using the Computer (2 credit hours)
- This course aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills required to prepare engineering and surveying drawings using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software.
- ENG26121: English for Specific Purposes (4 credit hours)
- This course aims to develop students' English language proficiency for professional and academic purposes in the fields of science and engineering.
- Total: 12 credit hours
Level 4 – Diploma in Surveying Engineering
- SVR 25244: Computer Applications in Surveying Work (3 credit hours)
- This course introduces computer applications in surveying, focusing on computational programming and data processing using software such as MATLAB and AutoCAD.
- SVR 25252: Construction and Maintenance (3 credit hours)
- This course covers the fundamental principles of pavement construction and maintenance, focusing on materials, construction techniques, and quality control in highway engineering.
- SVR 25262: Graduation Project (4 credit hours)
- The Graduation Project serves as a capstone experience where students integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, and methodologies acquired throughout their academic program to address real-world engineering problems or conduct original research.
- MESQ25261: Field Training (6 credit hours)
- The Field Training course aims to provide students with practical and field experience that enables them to apply the theoretical knowledge and skills acquired during their academic studies in a real work environment.
