Program Areas

The program focuses on the following areas:

  • Energy Conversion and Storage: Focuses on sustainable energy technologies, including combustion, fuels, and renewable energy solutions.
  • Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences: Covers advanced thermodynamics, heat transfer, and aerodynamics for various industrial applications.
  • Materials and Manufacturing: Explores material design, mechanical behavior, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
  • Robotics and Control Systems: Focuses on autonomous systems, dynamics, and intelligent control applications.
  • Sustainability and Environmental Engineering: Investigates clean energy solutions, carbon capture, and sustainable industrial processes.
  • Plasma Science and Applications: Covers plasma physics and its applications in energy, materials processing, and propulsion.

Mandatory Courses

Core Courses

Students must complete four core courses, which provide a solid foundation in Mechanical Engineering. Examples include:

  • Energy Conversion and Storage
  • Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences
  • Materials and Manufacturing
  • Robotics and Control Systems
  • Sustainability and Environmental Engineering

Elective Courses

Students can tailor their education by selecting elective courses from a wide range of technical subjects, allowing for specialization in emerging mechanical engineering fields.

Research/Capstone Components

Students engage in hands-on research projects, industry collaborations, or capstone projects that address real-world engineering challenges.

Lab Experience and Duration of Study

  • The program includes a 10-week lab rotation.
  • The duration of study varies depending on the program option:
    • M.S. (Non-Thesis): Three semesters and one summer session
    • M.S. (Thesis): Four semesters and one summer session

Program Goals

The program aspires to be ranked among the top graduate programs globally, producing world-leading scholars, industry pioneers, and influential policymakers in mechanical engineering.
