Program Description

Purpose
The purpose of this course is to enable school librarians to manage modern school libraries effectively and support student learning. Participants will develop essential skills in organizing resources, promoting literacy, utilizing digital tools, and fostering an inclusive reading culture.
Learning Outcomes
- Learn how to develop policies and ethical guidelines, including copyright compliance, to maintain a responsibly managed library environment.
- Understand methods for curating and systematically refreshing a balanced collection that aligns with curriculum and community needs.

Distinction
This course equips librarians with skills to manage dynamic libraries, support learning, and foster a love for reading. Through lectures, projects, and hands-on experience, participants gain knowledge in library management, information literacy, and digital tools.
Participation Expectations
- 2 hours every 2 weeks over 12 weeks
- Online quizzes are embedded within the course
Admission Requirement
- Current or Aspiring Role in School Libraries.
- Commitment to Participation, i.e., attend all sessions, complete assignments, and engage in both online and in-person activities.
- Basic Digital Literacy--familiarity with online tools, as the course includes virtual resources and digital platforms.
