Master of Laws (LLM)

The Master of Laws program at NYU Law offers students the opportunity to design an individualized curriculum that matches their intellectual and professional interests. With over 300 courses to choose from, students can opt to specialize in one or two areas or take a broad range of classes.

Design Your Own LLM

NYU Law boasts faculty and curricular excellence across more than 15 areas of study. Experienced graduate student advisors will assist in choosing courses to meet students' goals. Students can also write a paper in close consultation with a professor or expand a typical research assignment into a master's thesis.

LLM Programs

In addition to the Master of Laws program, the Law School offers eight LLM specializations in particular areas, including:

  • LLM in Competition, Innovation and Information Law
  • LLM in Corporation Law
  • LLM in Environmental and Energy Law
  • LLM in International Business Regulation, Litigation and Arbitration
  • LLM in International Legal Studies
  • LLM in International Taxation
  • LLM in Legal Theory
  • LLM in Taxation

Real World Training

The program provides hands-on experience and a lawyering toolkit through simulation courses, clinics, and externships. For example, the Graduate Lawyering Program is designed for foreign-trained students to learn US legal skills.

Learn by Doing

Simulation courses make students perform legal tasks or conduct mock trials or negotiations. Students can also apply for clinics and externships which involve fieldwork. Transactional classes study the deals that shape New York business, often taught by top lawyers who took part in them.

Research and Writing

There are several opportunities to develop scholarship in close consultation with faculty experts. LLM research and writing projects can be completed in conjunction with a seminar or as an independent writing project. Students can also work with professors on their current research.
