نظرة عامة على البرنامج
Program Overview
The Praktikum Benutzbare Sicherheit is a university program that focuses on designing systems for security-critical contexts that are both secure and usable. The program consists of two parts: a theoretical part that introduces participants to different topics of usable security and privacy, and a practical part that focuses on user-centered design techniques for creating novel privacy and security mechanisms.
Program Details
- Lecturer: Prof. Alt
- Supervision: Lukas Mecke, Sarah Prange
- Scope: 4 SWS
- ECTS-Credits: 6 (MSc)
- Module: Master P5.0.2 or P5.0.4: Gruppenpraktikum zu fortgeschrittenen Themen der Informatik I or Informatik II
- Possible Recognition: After consultation with the examination committee, recognition for P2, P3, or P6 (Vertiefende Themen f³r Master) is possible
Schedule and Location
- Date: Tuesday, 14:00 - 16:15 Uhr (s.t.)
- Start Date: 21.04.2020
- Note: This course will take place completely online until further notice.
Course Objectives
The objective of this course is to learn how systems can be designed for security-critical contexts that are both secure and usable at the same time. The course will cover topics such as:
- Overview of security and privacy mechanisms
- Threat modeling
- Mental models
- Application areas, including passwords, authentication, security warnings, and social engineering This year, the course will focus on creating novel privacy and security mechanisms around augmented and virtual reality.
Course Structure
The course consists of two parts:
- Theoretical part: Introduction to different topics of usable security and privacy
- Practical part: User-centered design techniques for creating novel privacy and security mechanisms In small groups, participants will create concepts for novel mechanisms, build prototypes, and evaluate these in user studies regarding security and usability.
Application
Students interested in the course should provide the following information:
- Rate (1=no experience, 5=expert) and briefly describe any relevant expertise in the following areas: Unity/VR development, security/privacy, concept development, evaluation
- Write a short paragraph (max. 150 words) describing their motivation to participate in this course.
Additional Information
This is a joint course with the UniBW M³nchen.
