Course Overview
The course "DIMENS’ES SOCIAIS RELACIONADAS ¿ DESASTRES GEO" (Social Dimensions Related to Geo-Disasters) aims to enhance students' understanding of the social dimensions of natural disasters, increasing their awareness of who is most affected and where these impacts are concentrated.

Course Objectives
The course analyzes essential data for disaster risk reduction to improve participants' understanding of the social dimensions of socio-environmental disasters. The four themes covered will be:
- Vulnerability social (factor analysis + linear regression + data visualization)
- Local capacity for climate adaptation (FEMA linear regression)
- Attitudes related to climate adaptation (risk perception, risk experience perception, adaptation intention)
Target Audience
- Graduates and postgraduates with a background in Geology, Geography, Social Sciences, Economics, Architecture, Civil Engineering
- Public managers (Public Administration, Civil Defense, Urban Planning)
Prerequisites
- Completed higher education
Certification
- Participants will receive a Declaration of Frequency for distance learning courses
Course Description
The course will discuss and present the following topics, in addition to practical activities in R:
- The impact of extreme climate events on communities worldwide, resulting in material and human losses
- The importance of understanding population characteristics and conditions to reduce disaster risks
- The development and implementation of measures and strategies to help communities adapt to these extreme events
