Introduction to the Korean Language Institute
The Korean Language Institute (KLI) was established at Yonsei University in 1959 as the first institute in Korea to provide intensive Korean language programs for foreigners and overseas Koreans, including students, missionaries, and diplomats. KLI plays a significant role in introducing Korean language, culture, and history, with 170 faculty members educating over 9,000 students annually and over 150,000 students from 147 countries overall.
Programs Offered
KLI offers a range of programs, including:
- Regular Program offered throughout the year
- Evening Program for diplomats, professors, and/or professionals
- Advanced Program for former KLI graduates
- Summer Special Program which provides language studies and cultural activities
- 3-Week Program for pre-Regular Program students
- Requested Program for private groups
- University Korean Program held at Yonsei International Campus in Songdo, Incheon
Scholarships
Merit-based scholarships are awarded to outstanding students who demonstrate the potential for superior academic performance. Students who have completed at least one term and whose Korean language improvement and class attendance have been outstanding will be awarded a scholarship, which consists of either a 50% reduction or 30% reduction in the tuition fee. Students may also be eligible for Assistantships and Fellowships or receive financial aid from the Fulbright Korean-American Educational Commission and InKAS (International Korean Adoptee Service).
