Program Overview

The Faculty of Law at the University of Chile offers a Student Exchange Program for the first semester of 2026. This program allows students to participate in academic exchanges at partner universities in America, Asia, and Europe.


Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the program, students must meet the following requirements:


  • Be a regular student in the Licenciatura en Ciencias Jurídicas y Sociales program at the Faculty of Law, University of Chile.
  • For students under the old curriculum:
    • Have passed the courses Derecho Civil II and Derecho Procesal I.
    • Have at least 100 approved credits.
    • Not be in a situation of graduation.
    • Demonstrate an academic performance with a grade point average of 5.0 or higher.
    • Meet the language requirements of the universities they are applying to.
    • Present a physical and mental health compatible with the exchange program.
  • For students under the new curriculum:
    • Have passed the courses Introducción al Derecho II, Derecho Constitucional I, and Derecho Civil I.
    • Have at least 75 approved credits.
    • Not be in a situation of graduation.
    • Demonstrate an academic performance with a grade point average of 5.0 or higher.
    • Meet the language requirements of the universities they are applying to.
    • Present a physical and mental health compatible with the exchange program.

Application Process

The application process involves submitting the following documents:


  • Certificate of physical health compatible with the exchange, issued by a qualified professional.
  • Certificate of mental health compatible with the exchange, issued by a qualified professional.
  • Letter of motivation (maximum 800 words, in Times New Roman, 1.15 line spacing, and justified text).
  • Transcript of records.
  • Language proficiency certificate (if required by the destination university).
  • Curriculum Vitae.

Selection Process

The selection process will be carried out by the Director of International Relations of the Faculty of Law, Professor Aude Argouse, and Professor Pamela Martinez Martinez, from the Department of Labor and Social Security Law. The selection will consider the criteria indicated in the evaluation rubric of Annex I to Resolution No. 709 of 2023. In case of a tie, the student with the better grade point average will be preferred, and if not possible, the student better positioned in their cohort will be preferred.


Program Details

  • The call for applications will be open from April 14 to May 26, 2025.
  • The selection process will take place from May 27 to June 20, 2025.
  • The results of the selection will be communicated to the interested parties no later than June 31, 2025.
  • Selected students will have 10 working days to accept or reject their place.
  • The final acceptance of the applicant is subject to the decision of the destination university.

Obligations

Students participating in the program must:


  • Register and pay the corresponding tuition fees at the Faculty of Law, University of Chile.
  • Sign a letter of commitment stating that they know the rules of the Exchange Program.
  • Present a proposed academic plan to the Directorate of International Relations, including the courses they wish to take abroad, their workload, and the courses they wish to register for at the Faculty of Law.
  • Complete the exchange program within the corresponding period.
  • Behave properly during the exchange, respecting the rules of the General Regulations of Students of the University of Chile.

Benefits and Costs

  • The costs associated with the exchange, such as obtaining a visa, tickets, accommodation, food, study materials, transportation, medical insurance, and other personal expenses, are the sole responsibility of the participating student.
  • Some universities may require mandatory fees for the normal functioning of the study, as well as for obtaining an identification card, medical insurance, public transportation card, among others.
