The Master's Programme in Information Networks educates critical cross-disciplinary thinkers and innovators with human-centric technological skills and a strong sense of professional responsibility. Description

The great challenges of our time, from climate crisis to information manipulation, all have something in common: They are complex societal problems that can only be addressed via cross-disciplinary approaches that recognize larger connections between things. Tailored to the needs of the sustainable information society of the future, the program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of how individual (information) technologies and business models can shape societies and values through organizations, networks, and entire industries.

Upon graduating from the Master's Programme in Information Networks, graduates will have:

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

The tuition fee for this programme is 17,000 euros per academic year. Citizens of European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland do not pay tuition fees. Citizens of other countries must pay tuition fees.

Aalto University offers a small number of scholarships in the form of tuition fee waivers to fee-paying students. Scholarships can be awarded to the highest-achieving applicants based on the programme's evaluation criteria.

Structure of Studies

Master's Programme in Information Networks comprises a total of 120 ECTS credits. The two-year programme consists of:

• Long or compact major (40-65 ECTS)
• Master's thesis (30 ECTS)
• Elective studies (25-35 ECTS)
• Possible minor (20-25 ECTS)

If the student chooses to take a compact major, a minor (20–25 ECTS) is mandatory.

Internationalisation

The study environment in the Information Networks programme is international. The School of Science offers diverse possibilities for student exchange all over the world. Exchange studies can be included in the degree as, for example, an international minor.

Further Study Opportunities

The degree programme provides eligibility for scientific postgraduate studies in Finland. The skills learned in the programme create an excellent basis for doctoral studies at Aalto University, another Finnish university, or top international universities.

Relevant research is conducted at the Department of Computer Science and Department of Industrial Engineering and Management.

The programme follows a transdisciplinary approach, bridging the gap between society, technology, business, and human factors. Courses are tailored so that students develop a wide palette of skills and creativity to tackle problems of significant importance.

Study-Option-Specific Evaluation Criteria

Applicants meeting Aalto's general eligibility criteria for master's studies are evaluated and ranked according to the evaluation criteria decided in advance for each study option. The applications to Master's Programme in Information Networks are evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Academic performance
• Relevance of previous studies
• Suitability
• Recognition and quality of institution
• Other areas of competence

Evaluation Process

Applicants to Information Networks meeting the general eligibility criteria for master's studies are evaluated and ranked according to the process described below.

First, the applications are evaluated based on the following, critically important criteria:

• Academic performance
• Relevance of previous studies
• Suitability

Only those applications that include the required documents/fulfill the requirements of the above-mentioned critical criteria will be evaluated further and ranked.

Secondly, the following non-critical criteria are added to the final evaluation:

• Recognition and quality of institution
• Other areas of competence

The best applicants will be selected based on the comprehensive evaluation of all the above-mentioned five criteria. The programme does not have a minimum quota to be filled, and not all eligible applicants will necessarily be admitted.
