Introduction to the Data Science Specialization Course

The Data Science Specialization Course at UFMG aims to equip professionals with a better understanding of how data collection, management, and efficient analysis processes work. The course is designed to ensure that graduates are able to engage with society and contribute to reshaping it.

Objective

The objective of the course is to provide society with more qualified professionals capable of correctly applying statistical technologies and tools to manipulate, manage, analyze, and interpret data.

Departments Involved

The Departments of Computer Science (DCC) and Statistics (DEST) are offering a specialization course in Data Science. The Department of Computer Science operates in all dimensions of Computer Science, being recognized nationally and internationally in terms of teaching, research, and outreach. The Department of Statistics is a prominent institution in the Brazilian landscape regarding teaching and research in Statistics and Probability.

Course Details

• The course offers 100 vacancies, divided into two areas of concentration: Statistics and Computer Science.
• The course has a minimum duration of 18 months and a maximum duration of 24 months.

Scholarships

• Important information: The socio-economic questionnaire will be filled out at Fump between July 1, 2025, and July 4, 2025.
• The result of FUMP will be announced on July 10, 2025.

Curriculum

• The curriculum includes compulsory and optional disciplines for the two areas of concentration: Statistics and Computer Science.
• The compulsory disciplines for the Statistics emphasis include 14 credits, while the Computer Science emphasis includes 12 credits.
• The optional disciplines for the Statistics emphasis include at least 10 credits, while the Computer Science emphasis includes at least 12 credits.
• The monograph is compulsory for both emphases.
