Master of Science in Funktionswerkstoffe
The Master of Science in Funktionswerkstoffe is a postgraduate program that focuses on the study of functional materials.
Admission Criteria

Required Competencies
Applicants must have competencies in the following areas:
- Bereich I:
- 40 ECTS in Chemistry (inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, each with practical laboratory experience)
- 10 ECTS in Material Sciences (polymers, molecular materials, soft materials, metals, semiconductors, ceramics) and Biomaterials
- 10 ECTS in Experimental Physics (mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics) and Electronics
- 5 ECTS in Practical Mathematics (analysis, linear algebra, differential equations, and statistics)
- Bereich II:
- 10 ECTS in Chemistry (inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, each with practical laboratory experience)
- 20 ECTS in Material Sciences (polymers, molecular materials, soft materials, metals, semiconductors, ceramics) and Biomaterials, each with practical laboratory experience
- 20 ECTS in Experimental Physics (mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics) and Electronics, each with practical laboratory experience
- 15 ECTS in Practical Mathematics (analysis, linear algebra, differential equations, and statistics)
Application Procedure
The application procedure for the Master of Science in Funktionswerkstoffe involves the following steps:
- Online application through the university's application portal
- Submission of required documents, including transcripts and proof of language proficiency
- Participation in an aptitude test, which is usually held at the end of July or August for the winter semester and at the end of January or February for the summer semester
Program Structure
The program consists of two compulsory modules per semester, as well as elective modules from six module groups (I to VI). Students must complete at least three modules from two of the module groups.
