Introduction to Biomedizin

The Biomedizin program is an interdisciplinary field that combines medicine and biosciences, focusing on molecular and cellular processes in the human body and their pathological changes.

Program Overview

The program is offered by the Rudolf-Virchow-Zentrum (RVZ) for Integrative and Translational Imaging, the Medical Faculty, and the Faculty of Biology. It provides academic training at all levels, including Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), and Ph.D.

Bachelor of Science in Biomedizin

• The standard period of study for the B.Sc. program is 6 semesters (3 years, 180 ECTS).
• The program includes core subjects such as biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and preclinical foundation subjects of human medicine.
• Students participate in practical training through various two- to four-week internships, which cover a broad thematic and methodological spectrum.
• The program is conducted in German, with English as the laboratory language and the primary language for most of the M.Sc. program.

Master of Science in Biomedizin

• The standard period of study for the M.Sc. program is 4 semesters (2 years, 120 ECTS).
• The program focuses on research-oriented training, with students working in laboratories from the first semester.
• Key components include a practical internship with biomedically relevant models and organisms, specialized lectures on medically relevant areas of life sciences, and two six-week laboratory internships.
• Students also participate in teaching and tutoring, preparing and conducting a lecture for Bachelor students.

Admission Requirements

• For the Master's program, a successfully completed first degree (usually a Bachelor's) is required, along with specific subject-related admission requirements.
• An aptitude test is also part of the admission process for the Master's program.
