Program Overview

The Djiny evropské kultury - online kurz (History of European Culture - Online Course) is a comprehensive online program designed for individuals interested in studying the history of European culture. The course provides a thorough overview of the subject, covering key periods, personalities, and events in European history.


Course Details

  • Course Guarantee: Mgr. Klara Kudlova, Ph.D.
  • Course Coordinator: Mgr. David Trojan
  • Instructors: Pedagogues and doctoral students from the Department of Church History, KTF UK
  • Duration: 26 hours, consisting of 13 sessions (12 online sessions and 1 final in-person session)
  • Schedule: Wednesday, 18:00-19:45, with a 15-minute break
  • Term: Summer semester 2026

Course Outline

The course covers the following topics:


  • 18.2.2026: The beginnings of medieval European states and the Christianization of society, the first state formations in our region, the Pemyslid dynasty and kingdom.
  • 25.2.2026: The Luxembourg period in Czech history, Hussitism and its course.
  • 4.3.2026: Early written monuments in the territory of Bohemia and Moravia, the transformation of literature during the Hussite period.
  • 11.3.2026: European Reformation; the Habsburg monarchy, Czech lands, and Europe in the given years.
  • 18.3.2026: Society and literature of humanism and the Renaissance.
  • 25.3.2026: Baroque culture (literature, art, and education in the "dark ages").
  • 1.4.2026: The Habsburg monarchy and the Czech lands in the given years.
  • 8.4.2026: Enlightenment, absolutism, industrialization, and national movements in Europe.
  • 15.4.2026: Society and culture at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, modernism in world and Czech literature.
  • 22.4.2026: The emergence and development of World War I, its political impacts, interwar Europe, and Czechoslovakia.
  • 29.4.2026: World War II and European post-war development, key trends and crises, the emergence of a bipolar world.
  • 13.5.2026: Final meeting with the head of the department on the topic of studying the History of European Culture, employment, admission exams.

Additional Information

  • Optional Component: Two one-day trips (always on Saturdays) to follow the footsteps of history in the Czech landscape. The exact dates will be specified during the semester.
  • Certificate of Completion: Participants can receive a certificate of completion upon request, provided they attend at least 75% of the lectures.
