Advanced Carbon Capture Systems

Separate Module at Master's Level

Carbon capture and storage will play a significant role in achieving the IPCC's climate goals. With the Advanced Carbon Capture Systems module, participants will be able to assess and design carbon dioxide capture systems in a system integration context, including all systems involved, at both an overall and relatively detailed technical level.

Target Group and Outcome

Target Group

The module is aimed at engineers with a background in the thermal or chemical field from e.g., energy authorities, manufacturers of energy supply systems, and others working with systems related to carbon capture systems. The module provides competencies in the field at the highest international level.


Outcome

  • Knowledge: Understanding of the basic types of carbon dioxide capture systems and state-of-the-art in the field worldwide, as well as the value chains that are part of complex carbon dioxide capture systems.
  • Skills: Ability to understand and integrate carbon dioxide capture systems into future energy supply systems.
  • Competences: Ability to assess and design carbon dioxide capture systems in a system integration context, including all systems involved, at both an overall and relatively detailed technical level.

Admission Requirements and Application

Admission Requirements

A relevant Bachelor's degree followed by at least two years of relevant work experience. The course requires prerequisites equivalent to an engineering degree at the bachelor level in either the mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering fields. However, the module does not require prior knowledge of chemical and chemical systems.

Course Structure

The module is affiliated with the section for 'thermal engineering' at Aalborg University, Department of Energy, and will be offered by world-leading researchers and teachers in the field. It is expected that the module will partly be offered via physical teaching, but online or hybrid teaching will also be used to the extent relevant. The module is offered in English.


Assessment

The course is assessed by internal oral examination.
