Program Details

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) announces the commencement of a new academic cycle for the two-year Postgraduate Program in Cardiometabolic Medicine, leading to a Master of Science (MSc) degree.


Program Description

The Postgraduate Program in Cardiometabolic Medicine is designed for researchers and healthcare professionals seeking to learn the fundamental principles of cardiometabolic disease pathogenesis and risk factor interactions, as well as the basic principles of managing cardiometabolic syndrome comorbidities. The program aims to provide advanced knowledge in the diagnosis, prevention, and therapeutic approach to cardiometabolic disorders, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.


Program Objectives

The program focuses on:


  • In-depth understanding of cardiometabolic disease pathogenic mechanisms, cardiometabolic syndrome components, and risk factors.
  • Diagnosis, prevention, and therapeutic approaches to cardiometabolic disorders, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
  • Designing and implementing basic and clinical research for holistic and personalized management of cardiometabolic diseases.
  • Producing original scientific knowledge and publications in recognized journals.

Program Duration and Structure

The program duration is four academic semesters. Graduates will acquire the necessary skills for a successful career in the public, private, and academic sectors.


Career Opportunities

Graduates will be able to:


  • Work in positions requiring high-level knowledge and skills, staffing Cardiometabolic Units and related departments for diabetes and cardiovascular disease management in the public and private sectors.
  • Coordinate or participate in cardiometabolic disease teams and heart and diabetes clinics for comprehensive management.
  • Cover educational needs and prepare for doctoral-level studies.
  • Design and conduct basic and clinical research in the field.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold a degree from a recognized institution in Medicine, Nursing, or related sciences. The number of admitted students is limited to 42 per academic year.


Tuition Fees

The tuition fee is 750 per semester, with a total fee of 3,000 for the entire program.


Application Procedure

Interested candidates must submit their application and required documents electronically by September 30, 2025.

  4. Photocopy of both sides of the police identity card
  5. English language proficiency certificate (level B2)

  8. Evidence of professional or research activity (if applicable)
  9. Two letters of recommendation (to be submitted by the interview date)

Selection Process

The selection of postgraduate students will be based on the submitted documents and interviews with the candidates.
