Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must have:

• Higher education entrance qualification: General university entrance qualification or subject-specific university entrance qualification
• Phoniatric report: A phoniatric certificate is a mandatory requirement for enrollment. This certificate can only be issued by specialists in speech, voice, and hearing disorders or ENT specialists with a focus on speech and voice disorders.
• Language Skills: No special language skills are required at the start of the study program. However, to register for the First State Examination, students must have knowledge of an additional foreign language at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Program Content

The study program is based on four pillars: language training, linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and subject didactics.

• Linguistics: Students examine the Czech language system in comparison to German, focusing on phonetics, morphology, word formation, and lexicology, as well as pragmatics, language history, and practical grammar.
• Literary Studies and Cultural Studies: The program covers Czech literature from the national revival to modern times, including the reading of Czech literary texts and film adaptations, as well as historical, cultural, and literary relationships.
• Subject didactics: Students learn to plan and conduct Czech language lessons, including supervised school internships where they gain practical experience in teaching.

Structure of the Study Program

The program consists of 300 credit points (LP) with a standard study period of ten semesters. This includes:

• 95 LP for the subject of Czech and another subject, along with their respective subject didactics
• 35 CP from the field of educational sciences
• 25 CP from the area of school practical studies
• 20 LP from the area of supplementary studies
• 30 LP for the final examinations

• A compulsory module "Body-Voice Communication" to prepare students for a speech-intensive and communicative professional life

• Can be studied as a teaching extension subject from the third subject semester onwards

Career Prospects

The program prepares students for a career as a teacher of Czech language and literature. After completing the First State Examination, students are eligible to enter the preparatory service, and upon completion of the Second State Examination, they can work as teachers in the chosen school type and subjects across Germany. Alternatively, graduates can pursue careers in fields requiring solid competencies in the Czech language, culture, and literature, such as further education, cultural and scientific management, foundations, international organizations, journalism, media, publishing, libraries, foreign trade, foreign service, public relations, and advertising.

Practical Experience and Study Abroad

• A minimum three-month stay in a Czech-speaking country must be completed before registering for the First State Examination. This can be achieved through internships or study periods at universities in the Czech Republic, which students organize under the guidance of their subject advisor.
