Introduction to the FIT für das Studium - Deutsch (DSH-Kurs) Program
The FIT für das Studium - Deutsch (DSH-Kurs) program is offered by the Studienkolleg Sachsen in collaboration with the Stabsstelle Internationales. This program is designed for international students who require language preparation to pursue their studies at the University of Leipzig.
Program Description
The program aims to enhance the language skills of participants in German, enabling them to successfully complete their studies in Germany. The course duration is one semester, and it is offered at the B2-C1 level. Upon completion of the course, participants will take a language proficiency exam (DSH-Prüfung), which is a requirement for admission to German universities.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- Have a direct university entrance qualification for studying in Germany
- Possess German language skills at the B1 level, proven by an accepted language certificate
- Intend to study at the University of Leipzig
Application and Admission
Applications for the program are submitted through the Stabsstelle Internationales and uni-assist e.V. The application periods are:
- For courses starting in April: from early November to mid-December
- For courses starting in October: from early April to mid-June Admission is granted by the Stabsstelle Internationales after a positive review of the application by uni-assist e.V., which takes at least 6 weeks.
Course Details
- The course is project-funded, but participants must pay a reduced fee of 750.00 EUR per participation (plus exam fees).
- The course takes place over 30 weeks, including the exam period, and is usually held on 5 weekdays with 4 teaching units of 45 minutes each in the afternoon.
- No holidays are scheduled during the course period.
Examination
The DSH-Prüfung is a language proficiency exam that assesses whether the participant's German skills are sufficient for studying at a German university. The exam consists of a written and an oral part, evaluating the sub-competencies of reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
Re-sitting the Examination
A failed DSH-Prüfung can be repeated up to two times. Each failed DSH-Prüfung at a university or a Studienkolleg is counted. A passed DSH-Prüfung can be repeated for the purpose of improving the overall result, but not earlier than 3 months after the previous exam.
Special Arrangements
Participants can apply for special arrangements during the exam, such as extra time or specific seating, by submitting a written request to the examination committee at least 4 weeks before the exam date.
Support Services
The Stabsstelle Internationales offers support and counseling services to help participants successfully transition into their studies, including advice on residence regulations, financing options, and the transition into the main study program.
Outcome and Certification
The overall result of the DSH-Prüfung is determined as follows:
- DSH-1: at least 57% of the requirements fulfilled in both the written and oral exams
- DSH-2: at least 67% of the requirements fulfilled in both the written and oral exams
- DSH-3: at least 82% of the requirements fulfilled in both the written and oral exams
Additional Offers
Graduates of the course are offered the opportunity to participate in a bridging semester (Propädeutikum) and are invited to take part in a survey about their paths after completing the course.
