Introduction to the Early Childhood Professional Practice Partnerships Program

The Early Childhood Professional Practice Partnerships program is a collaborative initiative between the university and early years management groups across the Bendigo and Shepparton regions. This program is designed to support pre-service teachers completing their placement in the Bachelor of Early Childhood and Primary Education.

Program Objectives and Design

The program aims to promote Early Childhood careers for students with dual qualifications, specifically those pursuing a Bachelor of Early Childhood and Primary Education. It also seeks to support employment in these settings in central Victoria. A key aspect of the program is to provide increased support for Early Childhood services to offer effective placements for pre-service Early Childhood students. This enhancement in initial Early Childhood teacher education strengthens partnerships among pre-service education providers, Early Childhood service providers, and students.

Program Components

  • Mentor teachers are provided with professional learning opportunities as part of the program.
  • The program focuses on pedagogical expertise, professional practice, social justice, culturally responsive teaching, and a deeper understanding of local issues through critically reflective practice.
  • Participants are given additional support in preparing for placement, with teachers receiving mentoring and professional development to support pre-service teacher placements.

History and Expansion

The ECP3 project was initiated in late 2019 by the Victorian Department of Education and has since expanded in subsequent years. This expansion underscores the program's importance and its potential for growth and development in supporting Early Childhood education and careers.

Program Benefits

  • Supports pre-service teachers in their professional development and placement.
  • Enhances the quality of Early Childhood education through improved teacher preparation and support.
  • Fosters stronger partnerships between education providers, service providers, and the community.
  • Contributes to the development of a more skilled and responsive Early Childhood workforce in central Victoria.
